Megan O’Riley has never found a career that suited her, until now. She is determined to be the best insurance agent there is: the only problem being, she can’t even convince her family to buy any from her! Determined
and feisty she decides to knock on 65 doors a day. The 65th
door she knocks on, maybe the biggest mistake she will ever make. This
door just happens to belong to mob boss, Sal Scalfone’s betting house.
Scalfone’s nephew, Squid, who isn’t the brightest crayon in the box,
thinks she means something entirely different when she says he needs
protection. She was trained never to use the word insurance. Squid
throws her out and in the mix-up gives her his uncle’s briefcase. FBI agent Joe Franconi has been after Scalfone for years because Joe had watched him kill his father when he was a young kid. Joe and a couple of other agents have Scalone’s betting house under surveillance, and see, what they assume is the new runner enter the house carrying a briefcase. After listening to some of the conversation inside they decide Megan is also a prostitute, besides being the new runner for Scalfone. Joe
decides to get in with Megan by trying to buy her services as a
prostitute; all the while Megan is assuming he means he wants to buy
insurance. When Megan discovers she has the wrong briefcase, she takes
it back to Scalfone; not knowing one of the papers fell out when she
went through it to find her insurance forms for her appointment with
Joe. They
trade briefcases and Megan goes to Joe’s place for her appointment. What
follows is a modern day slapstick comedy of errors that will have you
howling with laughter, each one funnier than the last but none over the
top into silliness. Joe and Megan’s characters are well developed with
wonderful depth and realism. This book serves up sizzling chemistry in a
superb love story, laced with a whole lot of humor. The secondary
characters were also distinct and realistic. I devoured this book in one
reading; enjoying every page and was sad to see it end. WHEN OPPORTUNITY
KNOCKS is an absolute reading pleasure that has it all: adventure,
suspense, romance and a wealth of humor. I recommend this book to anyone
who loves an exceptional read. T.A.RIDGELL is a new author that will be going to the top if her next work is as first-rate, as is this book. For a new author she has woven a story with the amazing skill of a veteran writer. I look forward to her next book. She now is on my list of favorite authors. |
